Kuching Historical Walking Tour with Authentic River Taxi Cruise

Your journey begins with a stroll through the historic heart of old Kuching city, where you’ll pass bustling spice shops, the Main Bazaar with its vibrant textiles and handicraft stores and encounter a variety of significant historical buildings from the past. Following your walk, hop aboard a River Taxi (pontoon boat river cruise) for a one-hour cruise along the picturesque Sarawak River. It is a memorable way to bring you back in time; the time when the English adventurer, Sir James Brooke first set sailed in this region in 1839 with his yacht the “Royalist”. This cruise will take you along the edges of the river to enjoy an eye-to-eye view of the well laid-out Kuching Waterfront, Square Tower (formerly a VIP prison), old Kuching Mosque with its five golden domes, traditional Malay Stilted Houses, before cruising along the other side of the river to admire the Astana (former palace of the White Rajahs), Fort Margherita (former Police Museum) and local fishing trawlers, making for a truly memorable experience.

The Mystical Bloom of The World's Largest Flower

Gunung Gading National Park is home to the world’s largest flower, the Rafflesia, which can reach up to one meter in diameter. The park is home to the endemic Rafflesia tuan-mudae. When in bloom, the flower emits a strong, nasty smell which attract flies and other insects. The Rafflesia has no specific blooming season — it takes about nine months to mature, yet it flowers for only four to five days before wilting. Beyond the Rafflesia, the park offers enjoyable walks and challenging jungle treks.

In the morning depart from your hotel in Kuching for a scenic 1.5-hour drive to Gunung Gading National Park. Upon arrival, complete the registration process and find out whether luck is on your side today—you may have the chance to witness the magnificent Rafflesia in bloom, a rare and remarkable sight. Continue your adventure with a guided walk along the park’s thick jungle trails. With luck, a blooming Rafflesia may be hiding along the way, waiting to reveal itself. Your guide or park ranger will share fascinating insights into the diverse plant life and unique ecology of the park. After exploring the rainforest, enjoy a local lunch in Lundu Town before returning to your hotel in Kuching.
