Itinerary

Arrive Bario airport and transfer to Ngimat Ayu House (TNAH). Local home cooked lunch will be served followed by a short briefing on your itinerary. Free and easy to discover the village, where you will also visit a typical Bario Longhouse, followed by a short hike to the Penan settlement at Arur Dalan. Return to your homestay lodge where a local dinner awaits you.

0730hrs – Breakfast will be served

0830hrs – Start the trek at Ra’an Ukat then to Pa’ Lungan, these are idyllic Kelabit villages. Trek time will be approximately 4-5 hours over one small hill Ra’an Barit and arrive by about mid-afternoon. Upon arrival in Pa’ Lungan, our guide will take you to visit Batu Ritung and Perupun Rayah among the megaliths found around the village. Settle in while your guide prepares your dinner. Overnight at the village.

An early morning wake-up call today, have breakfast then visit the Ritoh Monument before we start on our trek to Long Rebpun. Trek time will be about 5-6 hours involving a fairly strenuous climb over Singkulup Hill with a few river crossings and the same time you may try your hands on river fishing and enjoy the nature. You will arrive at Long Rebpun jungle shelter in the late evening. The shelter is the mid-point of the journey for you to cross over into Indonesia the next day to a site which used to be inhabited by the Kelabit tribe. (They have since moved to Pa’Ukat and Pa’Lungan) more than 50 years ago during the 2nd World War, during which time, the Japanese occupied Sarawak. Overnight at a jungle shelter.

We have an early trek today to cross over Long Midang to the Indonesian territory. Trek time is around 5 hours and will cross over one hill (Ra’an Bulu) which marks the Malaysian/Indonesian boundary, with a stop at a bamboo plantation for lunch. While in Indonesia and we will arrive at a local village called Pa’Rupai where a tribe called Lun Dayeh shall welcome us. From this point – transfer by 4WD to Ba’Kelalan.  We will be arriving late in the afternoon and proceed straight to the lodging house for dinner and overnight stay.

Itinerary

Meet and greet at Bario Airport then transfer to Ngimat Ayu home stay.

After lunch, proceed to the villages in Bario.  Visit to the community museum, 2nd World War Monument,2nd World War Airplane wreckage, visit Wind Chapel on the top of the Bario Secondary School.

Wakeup at wee hours for a light breakfast before pick up to Arur Dalan village. From here, you will start your trekking up to the Prayer Mountain to experience the panoramic view of sunrise over Bario Valley. The elevation of the Prayer Mountain is approximately 1,430metres above sea level and the height of the hike from the trails head is about 340metres. Easy trek up remained easy until about 300metres before the summit, where the challenge began. The slope was steep and ropes were provided to help hikers. At the summit was a tall cross at least 15 metres tall. The cross erected in 2015 to replace an old and small wooden cross. 

After your light refreshment at the home stay, we will continue our visit to the Bario Salt Spring. Witness the Kelabit traditional way of possessing their mountain salt. Visit Pa’  Umor longhouse where lunch will be served. After lunch, short trek to the ancient megaliths  ( Stone Carvings). Locals claim that this is actually a burial ground for a kelabit nobleman named Ritong hundreds years ago. The man made structures or carvings are called Megaliths, which date back thousand of years. The site was excavated in 1962 by British soldier Tom Harrison, one of the most popular megaliths.

After breakfast, you will depart to Pa’ Ukat village. From here we will start our easy trekking to Pa’ Lungan village and overnight at the village. 

After breakfast, proceed for an a hour trek to Sebpur river. Experience a longboat ride on Sebpur River. Picnic lunch by the river bank before we heading back to the home stay in Bario. Free at own leisure.

After breakfast, morning brief about today itinerary. After breakfast depart on a walk to Rev. Alan Francis Belcher and wife Madge Belcher memorial site where they (Australian Missionary) lived while translating Holy Bible to Lun Bawang language. Discover the indigenous remnant historical sites before they socially and spiritually transformed. After lunch, join your homestay host to do their daily routine at paddy fields or at their orchards. Get down and dirty, learn the process of traditional farming. Along the way back, collect and gather fresh/wild jungle produce for a dinner. Ready for a cultural dinner with a Lun Bawang Traditional Dance.

After breakfast, take approximately (two) 2 hours trek local trails deep in the jungle and here you will find mounds in shape of crocodile. The mound which is shaped like crocodile portrayed the characteristics of the crocodile itself-its bravery, strength and toughness. After a historical visit, trek another (one) 1 hour to visit Batuh Inarit the biggest Ancient Mural Carved on rock in Sarawak. Packed lunch will be served. Trek back and enjoy the chill splash of Trusan River crossing. Late afternoon returns to homestay and rest or mingle with the local folks. Dinner and overnight

After breakfast, its time to say good bye to the folks. Then proceed for your journey by 4 Wheel Drive via Semaduh Valley to Lawas Town. Another journey which accessible only by4 Wheel Drive will take 4 hours back to Lawas then to airport.

Meet & greet by our local guide at Bario airport. Bario Highland is one famous highland plateau that is located about 3,250 feet above sea level. It is located near to Kalimantan, Indonesia, acts as a border around Kalimantan. The highland is centered by jungle covered mountains around.

Lunch at local homestay. After lunch, visit Bario Asal longhouse and the surrounding area. We return to our lodge for a dinner. Overnight at the lodge.

Early morning light breakfast will be served before we our trek up to the Prayer Mountain. The evelation of the Prayer Mountain is approximately 1,430metres above sea level and the height of the hike from the trails head is about 340metres. Miri is a busy if unremarkable city in Sarawak near the Brunei boarder. Meet your guide and we shall proceed for City orientation tour. There will be time for some last minute shopping to get supplies such as Adidas Kampung shoes ( local trekking shoes- recommended ) and there will be a briefing of what the next couple of weeks have in store. 0800hrs Start your journey by 4-Wheel Drive (4WD) to Kedaya Telang Usan (Baram Upper River). The drive takes approximately 6 hours. The drive takes approximately 6 hours – 2 hours on tar road from Miri City to Lapok Town and another 4 Hours on logging road. You will have a short stop at Lapok Town for toilet break, and next stop will be at Kilometers 10 (about 2 hours from Lapok Town). Enjoy the scenic view of green mountain & forest. Late afternoon arrive at Segah Sela’an Homestay.
Breakfast at Sela’an Home stay. After breakfast, proceed to take a boat transfer to Ba’ Ajeng. The boat ride from Long Segah to Ba’Ajeng will take about 1 to 2 hours depending on water level at the day. You might have to push & pull the boat when the water level is low. Or at some point you will have to walk by the riverbank. Transfer by boat is depending very much on the water level and weather on the day itself. Enjoy the beauty and the serenity of Ulu Baram by small boat after a long 4WD journey. Upon arrival at Ba’ Ajeng, meets and greet with your host. Free to explore the surrounding area and chit-chat with the community while your host preparing your dinner. Overnight at your hosts house.

You will spend the next 2 days with our welcoming hosts learning about their rapidly changing way of life and just how much they still rely on the rainforest for their daily needs, which is literally their supermarket. Accommodation will be provided in hosts house. Over the next few days you will spend time learning about the way of life of the Penan people and their native skills and knowledge such as the vast array of medicinal and edible plants in the forest, and of course how to make the infamous blow pipes and poison darts! The time here is planned for maximum flexibility, so that you can get the most out of this experience.

You have the opportunity to assist in the planting of saplings in the forest, take walks into the jungle to swim in nearby waterfalls and simply relax in a beautiful environment surrounded by nature. Food will be simple, healthy and organic. Expect lots of rice and wonderful jungle vegetables such as jungle fern and wild ginger flower. Food is collected from the forest and in addition to the vegetables there will quite likely be forest meat which is still the main source of protein for the people here. Baths and showers are often taken in rivers and waterfalls(bio-degradable soap to a minimum), however some houses may have a room for washing, with bucket showers. Your hosts are incredibly friendly and welcoming and you will be very comfortable and well looked after. The Penan people make some of the best quality and beautifully designed rattan baskets and mats in Sarawak, and as a memento of your trip there is no better place to buy.
Start an exciting 3 days/2nights of jungle trekking, exploration and sleeping in expedition standard hammocks under the canopy of one of the oldest rainforests on Earth and the traditional home of the Penan tribe who remain the jungle experts of Borneo and ‘keepers of the rainforest’. Expect to be trekking between 4-5 hours each day while learning all about basic jungle survival skills, how to build shelters, finding safe drinking water and food and starting fires. Each night will be a new campsite and you will be expected to carry your own kit and expedition hammocks as we make our way through the jungle trails… These will be hot and sweaty challenging days but hugely rewarding.

Bario is a highland plateau of over 1,000m. It lies between the Tama Abu Range and Apo Duat Range on the Sarawak-Kalimantan border. The many valleys in the region are peppered with settlements of cottage-like homes and often surrounded by paddy fields.

The area also boasts many high peaks including Sarawak's highest mountain, the 2,423m Gunung Murud. Ba'kelalan is a group of nine villages at Maligan Highlands of Limbang Division, Sarawak, Malaysia about 3,000 feet (910 m) above sea level and 4 km from the border with Indonesian Kalimantan and 150 km from the nearest town of Lawas. There are nine villages in Ba'kelalan. The villagers here belong to the Lun Bawang tribe

Meet & greet in Sibu then transfer to hotel for check in. Afternoon, proceed for a walking tour of the Sibu Central Market (biggest in Malaysia), Sibu Heritage Museum and the Pagoda. Evening, general briefing over a local dinner before exploring the Night Market. Overnight in the hotel.
Breakfast in the hotel. Morning – proceed on foot to Sibu Boat Terminal for a 2½-hour exciting express boat journey to Kapit, a small township dominated by Ibans and Chinese, along the bank of Rejang River. Upon arrival at Kapit, proceed direct to visit the Resident’s Office to obtain the Permit for remote travel. Lunch ( own expenses ) Check in to the hotel. Rest of the day, visit Fort Sylvia, Kapit Museum and Teresang native market. ( Dinner own expenses ) Overnight in the hotel.

After breakfast, pack and leave for Belaga by express boat for about 3 hours negotiating the infamous Pelagus Rapids. Upon arrival in Belaga Town, have lunch (own expenses) before continuing the journey by longboat (about 1½ hours depending on the water level) to go further upriver to visit a Kejaman Longhouse. Upon arrival, tour the longhouse and its surroundings to observe their lifestyle, witness their daily chores, most notably the ancient burial pole of their paramount chiefs. Evening, have a local dinner followed by witnessing the Kejaman welcome dance. Overnight in the Kejaman longhouse.

After breakfast, start the day with a longhouse hopping spree in a longboat visiting the Kayan, Lahanan and Sekapan Tribes. These are part of the vanishing tribes least heard of by tourist and live in small comunities that even the locals have very little or no knowledge of them.
Along the boat journey, take a vigilant surveillance of the mystical sights of the Keliriengs and Salongs ( Ancient burial grounds ) of the Orang Ulu, dotting the tropical rainforest alongside the gigantic Rejang. Have lunch in one of the longhouses.
Conclude the day with dinner, witnessing Datun Julud, a traditional rhythmic hornbill welcome dance and overnight at a Kenyah Longhouse Village.

After breakfast, depart for Sibu by express boat. Check in to hotel. Rest of the day, free at leisure until a farewell dinner at a local classic restaurant. Overnight in the hotel.

Itinerary

0830hrs pick-up from hotel’s lobby and start your journey for 2D/1N Batang Ai Iban Longhouse Tour. Start
your journey to Batang Ai, along the Pan Borneo Highway, passing through the beautiful sceneries of rural
villages, towns and gardens of pepper, rubber and rice fields. You will travel 275 km by road, with a few stops
along the way: the first stop is in Serian town, where you will stop for refreshments (own expenses). You may
wish to make some last minutes shopping for insect repellent or for gifts for the Ibans at Serian.

 

You can also visit a fascinating native fruit and vegetable market. The last stop will be at “Lachau”, a small upcountry
Chinese village, where you will stop for lunch. (Here barter trade still exists between the natives of Kalimantan, the
Chinese shop owners and the natives of Sarawak). After lunch, proceed to the final stage of the journey and
arrive at the beautiful Batang Ai Lake. Here you will board native longboat approximately 45 minutes and travel
up the river to an Iban Longhouse. On arrival at Iban Longhouse, you will be taken for a tour around the
longhouse to meet the natives and their families.

 

Dinner will be served at one of the family rooms. After dinner,
the Ibans will sound their gongs and perform their traditional warrior and maiden dance in full ceremonial
regalia with the longhouse’s chief and folk. Rice Wine “Tuak” will be served. Overnight spent in the Longhouse
with mattress/mosquito-nets/pillow (very basic accommodation).

Breakfast at the longhouse. 0900hrs trekking to upriver accompanied by Iban trackers. Go thru the rainforest, hill and streams, find jungle vegetable, wild fruits herbs, etc.

Proceed by longboat to picnic area. Native style lunch will be served by the riverbank. After lunch, return to the longhouse. Dinner will be served at the longhouse. Overnight.
Breakfast at the longhouse. 0900hrs, the Iban people will give you a presentation with their traditional weapon, the blowpipe.
After the blowpipe presentation, depart from longhouse by longboat to Batang Ai jetty and return to Kuching city via the same route with a stopover for lunch and after lunch transferring back to your hotel in city.

Things You Should Know :

* It is compulsory that life jackets (provided) be worn at all times during boat trips.

* For boats trip you are recommended to put your personal belonging in a small backpack/sling pack and it is
advise-able to put all yours belonging under a plastic wrap.

Custom of Longhouse :

* Customary to bring some small gifts for the longhouse folks like crackers, instant noodles, salts, sugar and etc.

Kalimantan is one of the world’s last, vast wilderness areas, a symphony of natural beauty and indigenous cultures. In English, the term “Kalimantan” refers to the Indonesian portion of the island of Borneo, while in Indonesian, the term "Kalimantan" refers to the whole island of Borneo.

The name Kalimantan which is often spelled Klemantan was derived from Sanskrit word “Kalamanthana” which means "burning weather island", or island with a very hot temperature to describe its hot and humid tropical climate because it’s located right at the equator.

Itinerary

Early morning at 6:30am, meet at Kuching Sentral and depart by overland to Pontianak, capital of Kalimantan. Journey takes about 6-7 hrs with stopover at Serian, a small town for a short break; Tebedu/Entikong for immigration check and Ngabang for lunch (own expenses).

Proceed for a stopover at Mandor Struggle Cemetery where more than twenty thousand native freedom fighters were killed and buried during WWII. Pass by small townships like Pinyuh and Mempawa before arriving at Pontianak by late afternoon. Check in at Kini or similar class hotel. In the evening, have dinner followed by shopping and opt for a night out. Overnight in the hotel. (Dinner)
Breakfast in the hotel. Morning – proceed for sightseeing in Pontianak, capital of West Kalimantan, founded in 1771. Places of interest include the Museum, Bamboo Monument, Market, Kadariah Palace, and shopping with lunch included.

In the evening, have seafood dinner at the famous Kakap Seafood Centre followed by shopping tour of the Fruit Market. Overnight in the hotel. (Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner)

After breakfast in the hotel, depart for a day trip to Singakawang, a Chinese dominated town. Journey takes about 3 hrs with stopover at Kura Kura Beach renowned for its turtle landing beaches, Pasir Panjang Beach and the Equator Monument before arriving at Singakawang.


A visit at Tri Dharma Bumi Raya Temple, very unique temple acts as a road divider in Singakawang and one of the oldest temple established in 1878, Marga Tjhia House authentic traditional house built in more than 100 years ago. Have lunch at a local restaurant before returning via the same way. In the evening, have dinner in yet another classic eatery. Rest or make hays moonlighting your last blues in this “Land of Thousand Rivers”. Overnight in the hotel. (Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner)
