Embark on a two-day Sarawak adventure starting at Semenggoh Wildlife Centre, witnessing Orang Utans during feeding time. Continue to Mongkos Bidayuh Village for a cultural immersion, exploring a traditional longhouse, engaging in a nature walk, and enjoying a river swim. Day two includes a guided trail walk, a waterfall picnic, and a local-style lunch. The journey concludes with a return to Kuching and a transfer to your city hotel.

Itinerary

0800hrs depart from your hotel in the city for Semenggoh Wildlife Centre where you will have the chance to
observe the Orang Utans coming out of the forest for the feeding time. Located in a 653-hectare of forest
reserve.

Here, an opportunity for you to observe how Orang Utans who are either orphaned or rescued from
captivity are being rehabilitated and trained to survive in the wild. Your guide will give you further details about
these amazing animals. 1030hrs proceed for 2D/1N Mongkos Bidayuh Village Experience which is located near
the Sarawak-Kalimantan border, 103 kilometers from Kuching. Arrive at Mongkos around 1200 hours.

Upon arrival, check in to your room in the village guesthouse-cum-homestay building or room in one of the village
houses. Bidayuh style lunch will be served. After lunch, visit the 24 door traditional longhouse and learn about
its history, including stories from ‘Confrontation’, the undeclared war between Malaysia and Indonesia that ran
from 1962-1966.

See the bullet holes in the wooden walls of the longhouse, the result of an Indonesian attack
on Mongkos during the Confrontation. Proceed for nature walk through nearby farmland, pepper, cocoa and
palm oil plantations. Then, meet local villagers and learn about Bidayuh way of life. The rest of the day is at your
own leisure to relax, wander around the village or have a swim in the river. 1900hrs dinner will be served in the
homestay. After dinner, enjoy the cultural performance and learning the dance steps with the villages at the
longhouse. Overnight.

Breakfast at homestay guesthouse.
After breakfast, depart on a guided walk along village trails and past farmland to reach the waterfall for picnic.
Enjoy swimming in the cool waters before having a local-style lunch of bamboo chicken, rice and jungle ferns.


(Note: Picnic lunch subjected to weather permit. In the event of heavy rain, lunch will take at the homestay
guesthouse). After lunch, walk back to the village. Check out of your room and say goodbye to your hosts.
Return to Kuching and transfer to your hotel in city.

The tour starts with a journey to the Kuching’s Batu Lintang Interment Camp used to huddled the Allied prisoners of war (POWs) and Dutch civilians after the Japanese invasion of Malaysia in 1941. The camp was initially set up by the Japanese Imperial Army and became one of the most well-known internment sites in the region during the war. While the camp site is now converted into a National Teacher Training College, some remains are still holistic sites to behold as we assist you to explore the “Punjabi Barracks” building, the flagpole, an ammunition bunker of struggles including local heroes who sacrificed their lives.

From Batu Lintang, we shall head downtown to sightsee/visit our WWII Heroes Memorial Tablet (13 Garland Men), Air Raid Bunkers, Charles Brooke’s Memorial Tower (site of Heroes’ tributes). The tour concludes with a leisurely drive across the Sarawak River to visit Fort Margherita, where you’ll learn about its WWII significance followed by a Q&A session.

Following your walk, hop aboard a River Taxi (pontoon boat river cruise) for a one-hour cruise along the picturesque Sarawak River. Embark on a scenic 40-minute drive from Kuching to Siniawan Village, a historic Hakka trading hub to unfold the Chinese legacy of Numerology and Geomancy through its traditional town planning. Explore authentic wooden shop-houses. Discover the Saliva of Hope (Bird’s Nests) and the Mountain Elf Shrine (Siniawan Tao Temple).

Our journey continues with a short drive to a secluded spot where Liew’s Sanctuary is located. A tranquil spot with a hill at its background and a river bypassing its front where Liew Shan Pang once quoted as saying, “An endless journey to go with an entire hill to climb comes not without any tribulation. Our sweat and blood is immeasurable like the flow of the river.”

© Visit Liew Shan Pang’s Tombstone, marvel at the Mountain Elf Shrine & Sireh Fairy Icon; listen to history comes alive about this Man, his power, his vision; and the moment he breathed his last.

Next, we head to Buso, a quaint town that once served as a base for Hakka Freedom Fighters. Here, you can stroll through the petite town or relax by the riverbank or in a local coffee shop as your guide shares captivating stories of Buso’s history and its brave warriors. Our adventure wraps up with a drive to Bau absorbing mystical chronicles, mythologies and philosophies on places like the Chinese (Hakka) Cemetery, Bong Low Sian Tze (Taoist) Temple, and the stunning Bau Blue Lake (former gold mine). Return to Kuching by late afternoon.
