Sea Turtle Adoption Program (3D/2N)

Graceful swimmers that spend most of their time underwater, sea turtles have survived almost unchanged since the Triassic period, some 200 million years ago. However, their once-successful breeding habits are now contributing to their extinction. Sea turtles mature slowly, beginning to breed between 15 and 50 years of age. Females typically lay eggs only once every four or five years and often return to their natal beaches, sometimes across distances of more than 3,000 km. The peak nesting season occurs from May to September each year.

The Sea Turtle Adoption Program (STAP) is a unique eco-tourism initiative designed to protect this endangered species. It allows volunteers to actively participate in sea turtle conservation efforts while raising awareness about the importance of their protection. The program also encourages knowledge sharing and public engagement in these vital conservation efforts.

Volunteers are expected to assist with cooking and cleaning. Participants will join a team of dedicated conservation experts whose mission is to monitor every turtle landing on the island, contributing directly to the preservation of Sarawak’s natural heritage. Volunteers can expect a rewarding ‘Back to Nature’ experience, but should bear in mind that this programme is not a beach holiday.
