Embark on a 9 days extraordinary adventure in the heart of Borneo

Explore the vibrant cultural heritage and unspoiled scenery of Miri and its surrounding regions. The adventure begins with a city tour followed by a seafood dinner, leading into a 4WD journey to Segah Sela'an Linau, where the stunning landscapes of the Baram Upper River can be experienced.

Immerse yourself in the traditional life of the Penan people at Ba' Ajeng Vilage, participating in activities ranging from learning about medicinal plants to crafting indigenous handicrafts. The expedition crescendos with a three-day jungle trek, offering an unparalleled exploration of Borneo's ancient rainforest and the fascinating expertise of the Penan tribe.

Maximum size for this tour is 8 pax due to the ground 4WD transportation. This is necessary also to insure sustainability & low tourist impact on these villages and tribes visited.

Itinerary

Meet your guide upon arrival and proceed for a city orientation tour around Miri. Last-minute shopping for expedition supplies, including “Adidas Kampung” trekking shoes (locally made rubber shoes highly recommended for jungle trekking and river crossings). Enjoy a fresh seafood dinner at a local restaurant. Overnight stay at a 4-star hotel in Miri.

0800 hrs: Begin your overland adventure by 4WD to Kedaya Telang Usan in the Upper Baram region (approximately 6 hours journey).

Short stop at Lapok town. Continue the journey with another stop at Kilometer 10 (approximately 2 hours from Lapok town).

Enjoy scenic views of lush green mountains, forest, and remote highland landscapes along the way.

Arrive at Segah Sela’an Homestay and settle in.

Breakfast at Segah Sela’an Homestay.

Proceed to take a boat transfer to Ba’ Ajeng village (approximately 1–2 hours depending on river conditions and water level). During periods of low water level, guests may need to assist by pushing or pulling the boat, and at certain sections will have to walk along the riverbank.

Arrive at Ba’ Ajeng and meet your local host family. Free time to explore the surrounding area.

Dinner prepared by your host.

Overnight at your host’s house in Ba’ Ajeng.

Important Note:
Please bring your own sleeping bag / sleeping mat for the homestay experience.

Spend the next two days immersing yourself in the daily life of your host community in Ba’ Ajeng.

Gain insight into the rapidly changing lifestyle of the Penan Tribe, their way of life and their significant reliance on the rainforest for their daily needs. Learn about traditional Penan customs, survival skills, and forest knowledge passed down through generations.

Discover the Penan tribe’s unique lifestyle, including their knowledge of medicinal and edible plants found in the jungle.

Experience a hands-on demonstration of how traditional blowpipes and poison darts are made.

Participate in conservation activities by assisting in the planting of forest saplings.

Take walks into the jungle to swim in nearby waterfalls and simply relax in a beautiful environment surrounded by nature.

The Penan tribe in Sarawak crafts exquisite rattan baskets and mats, making them an ideal keepsake from your visit.

Overnight with your host family.

Embark on a 3 Days/2 Nights jungle trekking expedition through one of the world’s oldest tropical rainforests in the Upper Baram region of Sarawak.

Experience sleeping in expedition-grade hammocks beneath the rainforest canopy within the region of traditional territory of the Penan Tribe, widely regarded as the jungle experts of Borneo and ‘keepers of the rainforest’.

Trek approximately 4–5 hours each day along jungle trails, rivers, and forest terrain.

Learn basic jungle survival skills including:
– Building temporary jungle shelters
– Fire-starting techniques
– Finding safe drinking water
– Identifying edible forest plants and food sources

Each night will be spent at a different jungle campsite. Carry your own personal kit, expedition hammock, and trekking gear throughout the expedition.

Important Note:

  • Breakfast and lunch in the jungle.
  • Dinner & overnight at jungle shelter/camp.
  • Please bring your own hammock / sleeping bag / sleeping mat and mosquito net for the trekking expedition.

After breakfast, bid farewell to your hosts.

Transfer by 4WD to Long Akah Airport for your connecting flight back to Miri and onward to your next destination.
