Mongkos Bidayuh Village Day Trip

Depart from hotel and proceed by road to Mongkos Bidayuh village which is located near the Sarawak-Kalimantan border, approximately 103 kilometres from Kuching. En route, we’ll make a stop at a vibrant market filled with native fruits and vegetables in the small town of Serian. Take your time to stretch your legs while browsing jungle and tropical fruits. Arrive at Mongkos Village around 1100 hours. Upon arrival, be greeted with a traditional welcoming dance by the villages. Explore the 24-door traditional longhouse and hear fascinating stories of its history. Learn about the ‘Confrontation’, the undeclared war between Malaysia and Indonesia that ran from 1962-1966. Observe the bullet holes etched into the wooden walls of the longhouse, remnants of the Indonesian attack on Mongkos during the Confrontation. Enjoy a delicious traditional Bidayuh lunch prepared by the villagers. After lunch, embark on a nature walk through the surrounding farmland, where you can see various crops, including paddy fields (which can only be seen during the planting season from September to March), pepper, rubber, pineapple and oil palm which is located just a short distance from the village. At 1500hrs depart the village and return to Kuching.
