3 DAYS 2 NIGHTS MULU HEADHUNTERS TRAIL

The Mulu Headhunters Trail offers an exhilarating journey through the dense Bornean rainforest, blending raw adventure with fascinating history. Located within Gunung Mulu National Park in Sarawak, the trail was once used by tribal warriors during the era of headhunting. Today, the route invites trekkers to navigate challenging jungle terrain, cross rivers by longboat, and traverse traditional bamboo bridges. Along the way, you’ll be surrounded by dramatic limestone cliffs, towering dipterocarp trees, and remarkable biodiversity unique to Borneo’s rainforest ecosystem. The journey concludes at a remote Iban longhouse, where visitors can experience the warm hospitality and rich cultural heritage of the indigenous community. It’s more than just a trek — it’s an immersive adventure into nature, history, and living tradition.

Itinerary

Upon arrival at Mulu Airport, (preferably morning flight) meet and greet by our friendly representative and proceed journey upriver through scenic rainforest landscapes to Batu Bungan by open wooden longboat. Upon arrival at Penan Settlement, observe the daily lifestyle of the Penan tribe, one of Sarawak’s last remaining nomadic communities. Experience their simple yet resourceful way of living and browse a selection of handcrafted items displayed for sale — including intricately woven baskets, beadwork and other traditional handicrafts made by the villagers.

Continue by longboat to Clearwater summer huts for a picnic lunch. Relax for a bit then continue journey by longboat to Long Litut. Begin a 3-hour jungle trek to Camp 5. The trek offers opportunities to experience the rich biodiversity of the area and the unique ecosystem of Gunung Mulu National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Dinner and overnight at Camp 5.

Breakfast at Camp 5 and walk through lowland forest to Terikan river (Packed lunch). Continue journey by longboat, cruising downstream along the Terikan and Medalam rivers to the longhouse (Homestay). Dinner and overnight at longhouse.

Remark: The adventure encompasses a 12km trek down the Terikan and Medalam rivers for 2-3 hours to reach an Iban longhouse

Note: The longhouse (homestay) is a transit point before heading to Limbang Town, which is approximately 2.5 hours away. Since guests usually arrive later in the day after completing the trail, staying overnight allows for a more relaxed and manageable journey the following day, rather than rushing directly to town after a long trek
