WORLD WAR II HERITAGE TRAILS
The tour starts with a journey to the Kuching’s Batu Lintang Interment Camp used to huddled the Allied prisoners of war (POWs) and Dutch civilians after the Japanese invasion of Malaysia in 1941. The camp was initially set up by the Japanese Imperial Army and became one of the most well-known internment sites in the region during the war. While the camp site is now converted into a National Teacher Training College, some remains are still holistic sites to behold as we assist you to explore the “Punjabi Barracks” building, the flagpole, an ammunition bunker of struggles including local heroes who sacrificed their lives.
From Batu Lintang, we shall head downtown to sightsee/visit our WWII Heroes Memorial Tablet (13 Garland Men), Air Raid Bunkers, Charles Brooke’s Memorial Tower (site of Heroes’ tributes). The tour concludes with a leisurely drive across the Sarawak River to visit Fort Margherita, where you’ll learn about its WWII significance followed by a Q&A session.
